Become an Instructor

Texas needs more motorcycle safety instructors to train the ever-growing population of new riders in the state. If you’re interested in helping people learn to ride, get started by reviewing the requirements below. Step 1Meet the Qualifications

  • Hold a motorcycle license for at least 2 years
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a high school graduate or have obtained
    • General education development (GED) certificate
    • certificate of high school equivalency
    • other credentials equivalent to a public high school degree
  • Be a safety conscious rider (All the Gear All the Time)
  • Have a qualifying driving record

Step 2Connect with a Local School

  • Find a school
  • Learn what it is like to be an instructor.
  • Get guidance on how best to move forward.

Step 3Instructor Training Course

Step 4Apply for an Instructor License

  • Create a Versa account on the TDLR website​
  • Apply for a new motorcycle instructor license​
  • Pay $50 application fee​
  • Application processing may take 4-6 weeks
